FAST

Automated Fixation Analysis

EL-MAR's Fixation Analysis Software Technology (FAST) provides quantitative information regarding the subject's fixation and scan-path patterns from data recorded by EL-MAR's systems. FAST dramatically reduces the time and effort required for data analysis and runs on a low-cost personal computer under the Microsoft Windows operating system. With FAST, all input, analysis, data management and reporting functions are accomplished through easy-to-use graphical-user-interfaces. Standard reports include graphs and tables of fixation data and pictorial views of the subject's scanning behavior.
CPIT1
The distribution of fixation points in the field-of-view.
CPIT2
The scan-path pattern within the field-of-view.

Data Management

  • Set-up, analysis and reporting functions are accomplished through easy-to-use graphical user interfaces.
  • The PARADOX relational-database software package is used to support data entry, reporting and interactive query generation.
  • The database allows the association of: multiple subjects with each study; multiple tests with each subject; and multiple ojects-of-interest with each test. Each test can be associated with a specific event or procedure.

Data Analysis

  • Software control of VCR functions facilitates automated data analysis.
  • Objects-of-interest are interactively selected from a video-image of the scene.
  • Coordinates of objects-of-interest are calculated at a rate of 30 times/second.
  • Eye-position and objects-of-interest coordinates are synchronized and recorded to hard disk. Pupil-diameter, timeline information, event markers and data from six digital channels are also simultaneously saved.

Reports

  • Graphical, tabular and pictorial reports include:
    • The distribution of fixation points in the field-of-view.
    • The scan-path pattern within the field-of-view.
    • The duration and frequency of fixation on each object-of-interest.
    • The scanning order for each object-of-interest (relative to a specified event).
  • For multiple subjects, statistical summaries of the duration and frequency of fixation.
  • Subject selection for statistical summaries is based on user defined classification structure.
  • Custom analysis and reports are easily generated.
  • Data can be exported to ASCII files for use with other software packages.
